Latest News and Photos

The latest news about the Back Bay Skippers is on the New Hampshire Boat Museum web site. During the Spring, Summer, and Fall, regattas are held at 1 PM to 3 PM on Tuesdays for Solings and on Thursdays for US12s. Wednesday is the rain date, if the Tuesday or Thursday events need to be canceled. Photos from each regatta and other events are promptly added to the Gallery. If you have an RC boat, sailing or otherwise, show it off at our regattas. People start arriving around Noon. If you don’t have a boat, someone will loan you one to try for a while, or beforehand you could arrange to borrow a boat for the day. On Tuesdays there may be twenty or more Solings. On Thursdays there may be eight to ten US12s sailing. We have a beautiful place to sail on Back Bay, on the Bridge Falls Path by the Glendon Street Parking Lot in Wolfeboro. We hope to see you there.

The Scott Spacie Memorial Footy Regatta was held at Rosemary Lake, Needham MA, hosted by Minuteman Model Yacht Club. This is the third Regatta in this year’s Nor’easter Footy Regatta Series. The Sheila Ryan Memorial Footy Regatta, the fourth Regatta in the series, is scheduled for August 14 at Lily Pond, Gilford NH. Nine boats competed in comfortable temperatures, under mostly cloudy skies, with variable winds. First place went to Minuteman Commodore Cliff Martin, second Herb Dreher, and third Jim Linville. The Back Bay Skippers competing were Bill Hagerup, Paul McBride, and Rick Gates, with Jerry Leach helping with scoring.

There have been no scored regattas this year, so far, but sailing goes on for Solings on Tuesdays, and US12s on Thursday from 1PM to 3PM at Back Bay, Wolfeboro NH. On Sundays 9AM to 12PM we sail whatever we bring at Lily Pond in Gilford NH. Wednesday is available as a rain date.

The Gallery has photo albums for each day we sail.

The Back Bay Skippers YouTube Channel has videos for each day we sail.

Highlights of each days sailing are reported in the weekly Model Yachting News article at the New Hampshire Boat Museum web site.

If you crave competition, the Marblehead Model Yacht Club is sailing their full season of regattas at Redd’s Pond in Marblehead, Massachusetts. This year they have added regattas for the Dragon Flite 95. Unfortunately they don’t sail Solings or US12s.

NHBM Lake Discovery Day Camp visits the Back Bay Skippers

Each year the NHBM Lake Discovery Day Camp visits the Back Bay Skippers to get a quick course in model yachting by Commodore Mark Whitehead and an opportunity to sail a boat. This year, because of rain, the visit was postponed from the regular Soling sailing day, to the regular US12 sailing day. Because of this, some campers got to sail Solings, and some US12s.
